Construction to widen Highway 270 to five lanes in Garland County requires lane closures and temporary traffic pattern changes at various locations within the construction zone.

Weather permitting, crews will be closing lanes and relocating traffic in areas along Highway 270 and at its connections with Crystal Hill Road and Highway 227. This work will occur between Monday, May 16 and Thursday, June 30, 2022. Lanes will be closed at various times during this phase of construction and crews will work to re-open lanes whenever possible at the end of each day. Drivers within the construction zone should allow additional time due to the following construction activities.

  • Crystal Hill Road. Traffic will be moved onto a newly constructed road at its connection to Highway 270. This temporary lane shift moves traffic onto pavement that runs parallel to the existing road, allowing crews to construct an improved alignment to the highway.
  • Highway 227. North of the intersection with Highway 270, traffic will be shifted onto new pavement that is located below the existing road’s elevation. This lane shift will allow crews to remove the existing highway pavement. Access to businesses will be maintained, and Macy Boulevard’s connection to the new pavement will remain open.
  • Highway 270/227 Intersection. New pavement markings will be placed within the intersection to account for the traffic shift on Highway 227.

Traffic will be controlled with signage, construction barrels, barriers, and flagging operations. The public is advised to be cautious when traveling in the work zone and watch for slower traffic speeds.
